Science, God and you.

Science, God and you.

This is a very touchy subject for many people, but my goal is not to insult, offend or demean in any measure. We all have our faiths and that's okay no one is right 100% of the time. This is a argument more about creationism and evolution. I don't think this is a valid argument for many reasons, but the main reason is that it is a limiting factor on God. God has no limits never forget that. This is certainly not a unique opinion that I have, I have heard it many times and from many people. Evolution does not disprove the bible and does not go against the abilities of the Lord God. We are putting our own limited world views on a infinitely powerful being that literally made everything you see. Time is not a factor to the Lord, we perceive time because we are bound by it and how we perceive reality. God is beyond time and space God created time and space. Evolution is God's hand at work before our very eyes. It's actually a reassuring reminder that you are always around the will and ability of the Lord. We are in a moving painting with changing colors and themes. That to me is incredibly beautiful. I personally believe the biggest obstacles that we face in studying the bible is we either take it a face value always or without wider context. We are reading the works of often ancient people who had a very different world view and tool set than we have now.

To add all the layers of complexity that one factor alone adds is a mighty work indeed. To quote Dan Carlin " The past is a foreign country. People do things differently there." I would even add the past is functionally a alien world to us today. We are not influenced by the same carrots and sticks that they were shaped by. The same language alone across time even a short expanse of time changes radically. Just listen to the old films from the 1940's you will get most of it however, there will be terms and phases that will leave you lost in the sauce. Folks there are people who were alive in the 1940's around today. That is a very short period of time in terms of history. Now the bible has gone through multiple languages, millennia, cultures, governments, churches and other organizations all with their own goals and interests. A good example of how ancient people described events in their lifetimes is the tale of Thunderbird and the Whale. Which I recommend taking some time to look up and read. That is a tale used to describe a massive earthquake that happened in the pacific northwest.

That doesn't mean they were not telling us the truth they were using their culture and language the best they knew how to pass on a important lesson to their children. Never underestimate the love our ancestors truly did hold for us. They did the best they could with the tools they had. That doesn't mean the bible doesn't contain gold. I do think it's the most important book ever handed down, and that's why you should pan for gold from it. Because there is absolutely incentive for bad faith actors to alter it to their ends. Along with all of the possible cultural context as well as documents missing. I do believe in the bible largely however nothing that peoples hands have handled on this earth is exempt from our failings. When you read the slavery laws among many other things in the bible you have to filter that through the love of God and Christ. If what you are reading seems to fall short of that higher ideal you need question it. I know that is a very difficult and uncomfortable proposition for everyone. The main thing I would focus on is that we are meant to have faith and walk with love in our hearts like Christ taught us. Never assume we have the full picture, this is a spiritual battle that we have to wage with love and grace. We will never know the full tale of our pasts.

So when you hear that God doesn't use evolution never forget that one you are putting your own constraints on God. Also remember we are working from a ancient text with a lot of complications that can be incredibly difficult to parse. However it is absolutely worth parsing this information. Our ancestors wrote these words down because they truly did love us and wanted to arm us for this world. May God bless us all.

With gratitude and love,

Fox
