The dangers of hidden technology and accountability.

The dangers of hidden technology and accountability. This is a continuation of the same theme as the previous article.

This is not a attempt at slander or a call to action in any form. This is simply a thought experiment for entertainment purposes.

We all accept there is technology out there we have no concept of. The military and NASA for example have technology far in advance to what the wider civilian populace is aware of. The question this poses for us is this technology being used for ethic purposes or the greater good? Then also who is aware of this, and how are they keeping in check? There is a real risk of technology run amok. We kinda take for granted that we will have progress with technology while forgetting the downsides of that same technology. There is a hypothetical concept known as the technological singularity. This is the point where technology escapes our control and causes irreversible changes to our lives for better or worse. The part of that which to me is personally terrifying is that very technology existing in private organizations beyond the control of any government or wider citizen body. If they develop technology that has the ability to control or alter our very lives and we are not aware of its existence what is the recourse for that technology? There is the obvious defense of copyright laws and the need to prevent competitors from stealing that technology. However, if this technology poses a greater danger to our lives how to know about it?

Who is regulating that awesome power in the hands of private individuals? We are entering a age where technology is moving blindingly fast. In my grandparents lifetimes they went from black and white TV's to VR head sets. That was a rapid change in terms of historical progress. Nowadays, technology is amplifying that effect more and more. These private organizations have vast resources and occupancy in multiple countries where regulating them and controlling them is more a farce that a reality. If for example they decided that they didn't like the United States and no longer wished to abide by our laws what stops them from covertly moving that technology to another rival nation state? What stops them from playing both sides in a conflict between the United States and a adversary in the future? These organizations do not chase ideals they generally chase profit. This is a real risk in our future or even our present. How would we know of these technologies? To me I see these things from the perspective of national security, that might sound silly to some but we are in the age of technological conflict.

Anyways this is food for thought, I hope you enjoyed the post. Once again this is for entertainment purposes only not a political commentary.

With gratitude and love,

Fox
